Rosie bolted this morning from her pet sitters. Her owner is one of my best friends.

Rosie is an adult, female, German Shepherd with a very black colored face. AC saw her at North Star and Northwest Blvd. at 10:00 AM this morning but couldn't catch her.

Please help me spread the word to anyone you know who lives in the Columbus area. Share this message on Facebook and retweet on Twitter.

We are worried sick for Rosie's safety. I am also waiting for more information to find out if she was wearing a collar and tags. I'll update as soon as I have more information.

You probably think that doesn't sound right. Fences creating freedom? Well it makes sense if your're a dog and your life used to be on the end of a tether or chain. Raleigh, North Carolina, like many other cities in the U.S. has enacted an anti-tethering law making it illegal to keep pets tied or chained for extended periods of time. Extended tethering leaves both the dogs and public at risk. Dogs are at risk if they are attacked by other loose dogs, larger animals or people who mean them harm. People, particularly children, are at risk if they wander within harms reach. The problem with many tethered dogs is that they are not socialized to interact with people making them more likely to bite when approached by a stranger.

With the law, along with daily fines for those who don't untie their dogs, due to take effect this July some concerned citizens realized that now was the time to ensure that for those who couldn't afford a fence, surrendering their pets to the local shelter wouldn't become the only alternative low income owners could turn to. People United for Pets (PUP) members volunteer their time to go out on the weekends and build fences for those who need them.

PUP offers the free fencing on one condition, the dogs who are to be beneficiaries of their goodwill must be spayed and/or neutered. The cost to alter their pets is also offered at no cost to the owners. They just have to be willing.

The Dyson Airmuscle Pet Vacuum

A message from Kitai the dog: Recently I was offered a Dyson Airmuscle pet vacuum to have mom use and review as part of a focus group on Dogster.com. A lot of you are probably aware that mom doesn't do very many product reviews. She's a stickler for only reviewing something if we actually needed and used it. Because I shed year round like a team of Huskies it didn't take me long to convince her to accept the vacuum. When it arrived I put her to work cleaning up after me and here's what she had to say:

Never in her wildest dreams did she know that vacuums could ever be this amazing.

To start with she loved the box it came in... Mom's never seen such a well designed package before. Ever. The box was easy to open and way easier to remove the vacuum from then she had expected it to be. Too bad more products don't put more effort into their packaging. Mom took this as a good sign that if the box was this well designed the vacuum would be even better.

Assembly was easy. Mom took a few peeks at the diagram and had the whole thing put together lickity split.

We have two kinds of carpet in our house. A low shag and a berber. The shag was easy to vacuum. The berber, even on the low setting was really hard to vacuum. The drag made it so that mom had to use two hands to move the vacuum over the berber carpet. While that's a drag (no pun intended) mom says it's good and her arms are going to get really toned from vacuuming the living room carpet from now on.

Emptying the canister was very easy and much cleaner then the vacuum she had been using. Mom was literally stunned at how much this vacuum picks up. She's guessing it picks up a good 70% more dirt out of the carpet then our other vacuum does. After barely vacuuming what looked like a clean area of shag carpet the canister was practically full with way more "dirt" then she typically sees in the old canister. She was also surprised by how much more "white" the newly cleaned carpet looks. It looks like it was shampooed and cleaned, not just vacuumed.

The hose is not super flexible but because mom says she is freakishly strong for her size she didn't have any problems manipulating the hose any direction she needed it to go. And thought she hasn't used it yet... Mom is in awe that the hose seems to be designed to knock out any blockages with a built in feature. Too many times she's found herself with a long wire coat hanger trying to dig out blockages from hoses in the past. She can't wait until she has the opportunity to unclog this new hose with a simple push back in of the retractable tube.

The furniture attachment brush is great! It does seem to work better picking up the dog hair then cat hair and cleans the seat area with just a few passes. The trickier part is the crevice between the seat and the chair back on our fabric covered dining chairs. That requires switching attachments to clean that narrow strip but all in all she is thrilled with not having to use tape or pick most of the hairs off of the couch cover by hand anymore.

She also tried out the attachment brush on a small fleece cat bed Squash sleeps on in the window. It was old and dirty and kind of lumpy. A few passes with the brush and it literally looked new again. The bristles not only removed the embedded cat hair but fluffed the fleece back up again making the bed soft and puffy again. A lot of fluff was then embedded on the brush attachment roller but just took a few minutes to remove by hand.

The only thing mom doesn't care for is that the release to lower the handle area is located on the front of the machine instead of the back. It is slightly awkward. What more then makes up for that though is that one of her favorite button features is the selections for floor surface types is located at the top instead of near the bottom of the front of the vacuum as it's been on every vacuum she's ever owned before. With 2 types of carpet, linoleum in the kitchen and stone tiles in the main hallway and one bedroom with hardwood... This makes the whole process SO much easier to use the correct type for each room and area. The rest reminded her a lot of her mac computer that was designed to be very intuitive so that manuals and diagrams are not needed. Just simple steps to get you up and running.

From Mom: The price is steep enough that to be honest I'd have to say I never would have purchased a Dyson on my own. But now having used this one? I can't imagine not having one ever again. There are times when a high price is reflective of a trend or "name" and other times when a high price is reflected in the quality and capabilities of how an appliance performs. I'd definitely say that this Dyson Animal Pet Vac falls into the latter category. Having used this one and being able to see firsthand what an amazing job it does, when the time comes to replace it I will definitely go with another Dyson.

A good friend of mine who lives in Ohio and is a VERY active member of a local dog rescue needs some support. The rescue, Measle's Animal Haven, is trying to win an online contest. The top voted rescue or shelter will receive $10,000! Those of you who have pets know that things like food, toys and vet bills add up quickly for your own pet. As many of you know Kitai and I are big Cesar Millan fans. Cesar has helped to educate a lot of pet owners that their "problem" dog isn't usually the problem. Rather they themselves are often the catalyst for their badly behaving pooch by unwittingly rewarding bad behaviors, missing out on opportunities to minimize problem situations and by most often misunderstanding the body language and visual cues their dog is giving them.

IMO he has single handedly saved countless dogs from being taken to a shelter to be relinquished or put to sleep. By using his tv show The Dog Whisperer he has helped to show the general public that while some dogs may be aggressive within each breed group, not all of them are bad dogs. He shows that while there will unfortunately be some dogs that are out of control, most are not usually beyond help, and that the vast majority are great dogs that only need a more educated or experienced owner and the opportunity to become a wonderful pet and faithful companion.

A few days ago mom received an email inquiry asking if she would be interested in a short guest posting stint on the Official Dogster.com blog. Most of you know she is a huge fan of Dogster. She goes there a lot and pretends to be me, and talks to other people pretending to be their dogs.

Seriously, it's not as crazy as it sounds.

On Dogster your human's online username is your name. Their avatar is a photo of you. So it's only natural that people start speaking as their dog right? Ummmm well that's her story and she's sticking to it.

Her post, written as herself, is titled "Does Your Dog Need a Blog?"

All in all she can't say enough good things about Dogster. Want the latest news about anything dog related and she swears you'll read it in their forums days before the mainstream media picks up the story. Want to help support dogs in need, help demand responsible owner legislation, tougher cruelty laws and learn about the latest in dog health, nutrition, training and behavior? The Dogster Forums is where she does all of that and much, much more.

Her post is all about how a blog can help to share this information with even more pet owners then those who are members of Dogster. In particular she think starting a blog and adding a link list to all of your local shelters and rescues that you email to anyone you hear of looking to adopt a pet is such an easy thing we as individuals can do. And it can help save some of the millions of unwanted pets, like me, in our nations shelters each year. I have a Northern California shelter and rescue link list on my website homepage. Just scroll down a bit and you'll see it.

Other then emailing it to interested friends how do people find it? Well it's easy once she hands them one of my business cards. BOL.

Since joining Dogster moms learned a lot about the internet, basic HTML, online communities, how to post on a forum and how to be a better communicator in general. We've also made some really fantastic real life friends. (If you aren't a dog lover they also have Catster for people who are into their kitties.)

San Francisco SPCA Birthday Cake by Cake Coquette

Isn't this a great cake? Mom was online reading blogs last night when she came across this amazing cake, custom made for the San Francisco SPCA's 140th birthday!

A company called "Cake Coquette" located in San Francisco made this great celebration cake. Designer Gabrielle Feuersinger is not only talented but really nice too. Mom met her last month up in the city.

Mom made me a birthday cake once. It was made of meatloaf and frosted with mashed potatoes with a cute dog cookie on the top. Maybe she'll make me another one this year for my birthday! It's coming up in a couple of months. She may even throw me a party where I get to invite all of my doggie pals for a play session this year!

Funny thing about me. Smiles, scruffy hair, and fame follow me around wherever I go. Especially when I wear one of my custom couture costumes mom makes me. Mom just spotted this photo of me on the Santa Clara Weekly's website in a feature they did about the HSSV's 5th annual fund raiser, The Fur Ball.

Mom adopted me at the HSSV 4 years ago. I'm her first shelter dog but I always hear her say I will not be the last. She is now very partial to scruffy mutts. Especially ones that look like a cross between a cartoon, a muppet and a wombat. BOL

BOL As most of you know I'm kind of famous. I have my own website and press page. I've received a ton of Press including being featured on the websites of the TODAY show, the Dog Whisperer, HGTV, The Campbell Reporter, Mutts Comics, Dogster.com... the list goes on and on. Last Halloween mom and I even got to fly to NYC to be on the TODAY show in their pet costume contest! Well I did it again at the Fur Ball last weekend. I'm now featured on the NBC 11 website in their slideshow of the 5th Annual Humane Society of Silicon Valley Fur Ball. There are two pictures of me, modeling both sides of my new "No Nuts" pro-spay and neuter costume. Woo Hoo. I work very hard to be a goodwill ambassador for shelter dogs who need homes. What fun! For the first time ever I attended the annual black tie fund raiser for the Humane Society of Silicon Valley. The HSSV is a non-profit, privately funded shelter that serves the Bay Area. I have a very soft spot for the HSSV because it's where I found and adopted my dog Kitai from. It is a wonderful organization. My understanding is that it has managed, through adoption at it's own facility and by partnering with other shelters and rescues, to successfully reduce it's kill rate of adoptable animals to zero. It is a truly "Humane" society and shelter.

Woz is a huge supporter of the HSSV. He even helped make and publicizes this video "www.CatsWithoutAHome.com" about how feral cats are faring here in the Silicon Valley and what we can do to help the cats and the organizations who look after them.

Upon my arrival home from my big trip to NYC mom found an email from The Campbell Reporter asking if I wanted to be interviewed for an article they wanted to write about me.

My people, mom, talked to their people, Cathy, and an interview date was arranged. I was pretty laid back for the meeting.

I did my tricks for Cathy and even let a little boy, who seemed scared of dogs, pet me.

Mom was excited because she got to talk a LOT about how I came from a shelter and all about my new spay and neuter fund. That made both of us happy because we both love to help other dogs. Well, mom likes to help them, I just like to sniff their butts.

Woo Hoo I was on TV!

Well I went to New York City!

As you may have heard... I didn't win the big costume contest. Truthfully I wasn't that disappointed. I mean it would have been WAY cool to win, but really what am I gonna do with a big gold trophy? There would have only been two options, pee on it or chew on it. Mom says both would be really wrong so I guess I didn't miss out on too much. The consolation prizes were great! Lots of treats and toys! I already shared some with one of my Dogster pal's whose mom came all the way to NYC from New Jersey to meet me. I sent Daisy my giant rawhide and a package of treats. I hope she enjoys them. I'm also going to offer my Pegetable to my pal Rosalita because I know she loves them.

Mom was thrilled I was on tv. As many of you know I am a volunteer goodwill ambassador for pet adoption through shelters and rescues. So as long as we helped to spread the word that there are great dogs waiting for new forever homes in shelters that was all that really mattered to her. They didn't mic my mom so if any of you were wondering what she said to Natalie when she asked why mom made me a Cesar costume mom told her it was because we admire Cesar for helping families stay together.

On a funny note I was treated like a star! A driver in a big, shiny, black car picked us us at the airport and we stayed in a swanky luxurious hotel. I could get used to being treated like a celebrity!

This morning before the show mom took me down for a walk in Central Park. I peed on so many trees and fire hydrants in NYC I lost count! Then we were whisked off to the NBC studios. A lot of people there really liked my costume. One lady even made Matt Lauer come look at me! He laughed when he saw my outfit. After the segment I got my picture taken with Elvira and football player Tiki Barber.

Mom was VERY proud of me. As some of you know I used to have a BIG problem being mean to big dogs. Well today I quickly became buddies with Miles the Rottweiler and after one little growl at Pasha, the gorgeous Husky who won, I was also pretty darn nice to him too.

Then Mom's Dogster.com pal and her daughter met us back at the hotel and we went for another walk in Central Park and grabbed some lunch off a street cart. I saw LOTS of carriage horses. I was minding my manners really well. I almost barked at them once but when mom told me to settle down I did. I was the model tourist. Well except for the peeing on everything in sight part. BOL.

So all in all the trip was a blast! We had a great time meeting and hanging out with all of the other pups and their owners that morning and I am now an official jet setter. Mom says I did great on the plane. I was in cargo since I'm too big to fit in the cabin, but I did just fine. Mom made sure to get a direct, non-stop, flight so I would be less traumatized and to remove any chance of us being seperated on the flight.

Well I have to run. It's Halloween. Time to go Trick-or-Treating! We'll post a picture of my new costume on my page tomorrow! Hope you all get lots of great treats!

I'm going to be on the TODAY Show in NYC

Yup NYC here I come! Turns out Mom had entered me in their pet costume contest and I made it into the final 6 dogs being invited to be on the show Halloween morning! There isn't a "prize" per say, just the glory of being on tv so in a manner of speaking we've all already won just by being on the show.

Today I have to go to the Vet to get my health certificate and mom and I fly out tomorrow afternoon. We're on the show tomorrow morning and leave in the afternoon.

We could have stayed longer but mom just got married the other day and wants to come back home right away so she can be with her new hubby. I got to walk down the aisle at the wedding as the "Mutt of Honor" then hung out with the guests all night long at the reception since it was a pet friendly hotel.

What a week this has been!

I have a business card!

So mom decided that I needed a way to help people remember the url to my website. So many people stop and talk to her about me when we're out in public but it seemed difficult for people to remember my website name.

This was not good news. I mean how are people supposed to go to my home page and see all of the cute pictures of dogs that need homes, see the links to all of the shelters and rescue groups if they can't remember how to get there?

So when mom got an offer to have cards printed for free, just the cost of shipping, she decided to go ahead and order me some. Now when people stop to chat about me mom is gonna give them my card to help them remember... And hopefully help people find all of the rescue and pet care info on my site.

I take my job as a good will ambassador for pet adoption through shelters and rescue very seriously.

The Kitty Stroller

So back in March on the tv show The Dog Whisperer, Cesar suggested that if you own a cat, to get a pet stroller and take the cat on walks with your dog to further establish the cat as part of the pack.

On a lark I told my boyfriend that he should get a kitty stroller so we could bring his cat, Squash, with us on our 2 mile walk to the mall each weekend. It's a mile each way, we walk there and sit in the park area at the mall for an hour or so with coffee and tea then walk home.
I was shocked when he thought it was a good idea and ordered the Jeep Wrangler stroller online for $99 and even more shocked when we put a harness with id tag on his kitty and loaded him into the stroller and took off for the mall for the first time.

Kitty was fine with the whole process. He's a 12 year old house cat who has never been outside, and has never worn a collar or harness before. But he was just fine. Now every week BF even rolls him into Peet's Coffee while Kitai and I waited outside for them.

So just wanted to say thanks to Cesar for the suggestion. It's great being able to spend time together with Squash included on our walks. We're looking forward to all 4 of us spending the extra time together this summer.

So my pal Kiko sent me a link to a new webpage her mom put up on a website called Squidoo.com.

The ASPCA says my page will: ...help get the ASPCA's message in front of thousands of new supporters. It will also generate royalties that go straight to the ASPCA, every month, forever.

So somehow we just helped the APSCA raise money and awareness to help homeless dogs.

Well well well.... Guess who has his very own coffee mug? I don't mean I drink out of one. I mean you can buy a coffee mug with me ON it and all of the profits will be donated to help have dogs spayed and neutered.

Mom's boyfriend is guessing that nobody will ever buy one and thinks Mom is just crazy to even check each day to see if one sold. He doesn't think it will matter at all that I am the Cutest Dog Ever or that the profits will help a good cause.

My Pal Flecken!

Ha ha ha I was visiting my pal Flecken's Dogster page and saw that he wrote a diary entry about my inviting him to be on CutestDogEver.com! It was so funny I asked him if I could share it with all of you here. He said sure if it meant more fame for him! So here it is:

OK...my pal Kitai got his own website... cutestdogever. Now, I don't know for sure that he is the cutest dog ever, but his mama apparently thinks he is, and he IS pretty cute...but my mama tells everyone in the Gang that WE are the cutest dogs in the world, and while there is a slight semantic difference, I still think that "cutest dog ever" and "cutest dog in the world" are pretty much the same thing, and we can't ALL be the cutest dog, right? But since it is Kitai's website, I'm not going to argue with him over a slight variation in phrasing, and just let him have the title "cutest dog ever" since he already kinda claimed it anyway by starting his own website with that name, and especially because he invited me to be on his website in the "cutest friends" section.

Wow! Was I ever honored! To be on the website of the cutest dog ever! It's right on the same level of greatness as being in a spam e-mail that got forwarded all over the internet with a picture of the Banana Dog Gang in it! Maybe even greater, because let's face it, spam is....spam. But cutestdogever.com is a totally legitmate website, hosted by a totally legitimate dog, who also just happens to be the cutest dog ever. How many dogs can say they are on the website of the cutest dog ever? Not many, I can tell you that! But I am one dog that can say that I share space on the same website as the cutest dog ever.

I am still a bit confused about one thing, though. I STILL don't know how to pronounce Kitai's name! At first, I thought it was like "kit eye"......but thanks to cutestdogever.com....there is a pronounciation guide which says that his name is really "key-tie." But......is it "KEY-tie" or "key-TIE"? I suppose I could just ask him....but that would be so embarrassing. Like "thanks for asking me to be on your website, and oh, by the way....what's your name?" SO-O-O embarrassing! He'd kick me right off the website! Maybe I'll get Gretchen to ask him....maybe kinda flirt with him a little bit....bat her eyes a few times....and then hit him with the "what's your name, big boy?" question. Yeah, that should work. He'll never even know what hit him!

So Mom decided for me to be an official advocate of resuce from kill shelters I had to have my very own website so people could see what great dogs, like little ol' mwa, may be hidden away at their local Humane Society. Who knew that I would go from being homeless and living on the streets, to living in the noisy concrete and fence jail to my current wonderful life? I've come a looooooooong way baby!

I could have been put to sleep with a single injection like the millions of other unwanted dogs that are euthanized in this country each year.

Mom can't imagine.

But it could have happened.

Please rescue from kill shelters. It's certainly not the only way but it's probably the most rewarding way to find your next pet.

How I Became the Dog Whisperer

Well lots of you know Mom and I are ginormous fans of Cesar Millan. I mean once we read his book this summer and started watching his show we were hooked.

Mom also loves to make me fun costumes each year for Halloween...

SO Mom got this hair brained idea to turn me into Cesar for Halloween. How did she do it you might ask?

1 X-large blue shirt from the Goodwill, cut apart and altered to fit my doggie physique

1 pair of little baby khaki pants from the Goodwill for my front legs, again cut apart and altered to fit my stubby legs

4 plush dogs from Toys-R-Us and one fluffy one from the Goodwill to create my "Pack" of dogs

1 poor baby doll from Toys-R-Us who no sooner did Mom get her home then she tore the arms off of the poor thing and stuffed em up the sleeves

1 illegally copied cover of the book "Cesar's Way" so that I could carry his book along as part of my costume

1 incredibly tolerant dog (that's me) who came, stood and sat through endless hours of costume fittings just to humor the dingy woman

And there you have it! Kitai Milan was born! We went trick-or-treating last night and cracked up all of our neighbors, many of whom watch his show.

Can I Get Sick from Licking a Kitty's Butt?

Well Mom thinks we cleared a MAJOR hurdle yesterday in my being socialized with the boyfriend's cat. After weeks of freaking out whenever I saw the darned thing we have been baby stepping our way towards becoming cat social....

Today that cat walked right up to Mom with me beside (on leash as always) and I was able to come in close enough to sniff the thing and lick it's butt! Not to be completely crude but I licked where the kitty crunchies come out of a couple of times. Can this make me sick?

I also was able to lick it's head and sniff all over it's body while Mom was petting it, then I jumped around a couple of times stuck my head down and butt up and tried to get that darn kitty to play with me.

He just looked at me like I was stupid and sat there.

I mean normally he runs away whenever he sees me then I want to chase him... But today he was like "OK I guess you're here for good, may as well get this over with" and promptly presented his Crunchie maker to me!

Mom explained that the kitty will probably never play with me ever but she seemed so happy that we are finally becoming friends and that I may not have to wear the leash around the BF's house much longer!

YAY!

So here is my new favorite toy! HENRIETTA is, as one of my doggie pals called her, "The ugliest friggen chicken I've ever seen!"

My Mom got her for me while she was traveling... Instead of a lousy t-shirt! Mom thought she was quite stylish with her gold hoop earrings, purple toe nails, red lipstick, and a lovely purple and white polka dot bikini.

Did I mention that she sounds like a crying human baby when I squeeze her? And that I took her on my walks with me for the first 5 days after Mom gave her to me? Bwaa haa haa I traumatized many of my neighbors with my ugly little chicken!

BOL! (bark out loud) My friend Jubilee went on a business trip to Japan and while there found a cute pet shop that sold cute dog clothes... Her note said she couldn't resist getting this cool leopard print jacket for me, complete with a faux fur lined hoodie! Thanks Jubilee!

Hee hee it was a little too small (made for an 11 lb dog and I weigh 24 lbs) but with some minor alterations should fit quite nicely when Mom is done with it!

As anyone who has ever given me a gift knows... I am VERY enthusiastic about receiving, unwrapping, and using all the gifts that my fans (ummmm I mean my friends) have given me over the years!

Let it Snow!

Mom took me to play in snow! Every year there is a little holiday event near our house where the city brings in like 40 tons of snow for human kids to play in. For the past 3 years now at the end of the night we hang around and after all the kids are gone I get to play on the snow for about a half hour until they start to bull doze it into trucks to haul away!

I LOVE SNOW... I go jumpy jumpy all over it and dig little holes!

This year we told our neighbor about it so Murphy a real-life-labrador pal of mine got to come and play! He was really funny cause he wouldn't stop eating the snow. I only eat a little bit... The humans make snowballs and throw em and we chase em down... that's when I eat a little cause I bite the snowballs until they disappear into nuthin! Grrrrrrrrrr... Watch out you snow balls!

Mom wants to be rich so she can buy me my own snow machine someday and then I can have snow every single day!
